Class Information

Beginner Class

Curriculum

This class takes students from the first steps of studying Japanese to basic grammar. Japanese writing (hiragana, katakana, and kanji), correct pronunciation, and foundational grammar are learned and students will be able to speak in daily conversations.

Goals

  • Lower Beginner Class
     Listening: Able to understand someone's introduction when spoken slowly.
     Speaking: Able to introduce yourself with someone's help.
     Reading: Able to read and understand posters and notices written in simple language and known vocabulary.
     Writing: Able to write postcards using simple sentences and greetings.
  • Upper Beginner Class
     Listening: Able to understand short situations in everyday life (shopping, work, neighborhoods) when spoken slowly.
     Speaking: Able to speak about a wide range of familiar situations with someone's help.
     Reading: Able to read and understand basic, predictable things from daily life such as advertisements and menus.
     Writing: Able to write about things that are necessary for daily life such as memos and messages.
